The i Files

Up late, strolling through memory lane via my iPhone photos.  Looking back on the journey since returning to California – it’s been pretty on the NICE side.

Juicing with Mom. ❤

Chillaxin at the pool, eating farm fresh cherries.

Progress! Me at almost 7 months….this fella is gettin big!

The coolest chick under 3 feet (my niece). We kick it hard – me her and her teddy bear.

Bowling with the fam. Several people got whopped by a pregnant chick that night.

My sister tuned 30! She’s amazing!!

The garden at William Land Park…oddly named “The Rock Garden”. Meh.

“Hold my hat and necklace.” He said before taking off into a field of grass to do back flips.

Rumblings…

When once my little one would spend the majority of the day asleep deep inside of me – he now wiggles and jiggles most of the time.  I’ve gotten hip to his game though.  He’s trying to make Mommy look insane.  I sit in stillness and feel and see him kicking and moving around.  Like a VERY pleasant bug that somehow ended up in my guts and now has made it his home.  I decide to share, remove my hands and ask my mom or sister to have a feel.  They place their hands on my belly and wait patiently (for some reason when people do this it looks like their straining to hear a bird outside of the window).  And then…..NOTHING.  As if my guy is in there with his ears perked waiting for the moment of proof to pass – wide eyed, lips pursed and hands frozen in mid-fluid.  He thinks, “Those aren’t my Mom’s hands….I’m not moving.”  When he hears the hands remove themselves in defeat he then returns to his circus play, moving around and reveling in our little secret.  Meanwhile I look like a crazy person who just like her tummy to be touched.

I’ll get him back for this one day…

A Bit Flea Bitten

My cousin recently gifted me with a 50 mm lens for my Canon (EF 50mm f/1.8 II ) and I’ve been trying it out all over town.  Recently my sister and mom and I met up with one of my good friends Alannah to browse around the flea market.  Alannah was a little camera-shy, but my family is full of hams – so it wasn’t hard finding subjects to help play around with the new camera dud.

My sister Brittany has an infectious smile.

My mother “gracefully” attempting to fulfill a bet in which she remains on a skateboard for an entire minute.

Thanks to some guys selling used boards – we had our challenge.

Despite failure – she posed victoriously.

My mother an I basking in the shade of her $5 “sumbrella” (rain or shine brella, if you will).

The produce market was alive and colorful.

Food bet:  the chili, cheese, churro chip with curly fry sprinkles.  She noshed in success.

Silly in Philly (with Lilly)

Over the weekend I learned two very important lessons – 1) That the China Town bus is cheap for a reason.  2) Philadelphia makes for an awesome weekend getaway.

Not only did my husband and I get to escape the wicked city but we got to see my sister and brother-in-law and…my gorgeous baby niece Lilly!

The most amazing thing about Philadelphia was the architecture.

Occupy Philadelphia's tent city.

We got a little lost looking for my sister and brother in law's hotel, but I didn't mind soaking up the sites.

Lilly & her Tio ❤

Lilly's 15 minute obsession with an orange.

The ladies of the Breat Cancer Walk were happy to show their pride.

While waiting for a table at Miss Tootie's we browsed the shelves at CVS. Lilly had some things to procure.

Sometimes a wall says it all (or too much).

Lilly enjoyed a brief love affair with her teddy bear.

Tropical ice tea at Ms. Tootsies!

Me and my big sis.

In the end we ended up stranded in Philly and out $30 bucks. But like diligent soldiers we hopped on the first thing smoking back to the Big Apple and got back home.   – Totally worth it.

The New Digs & Other Business

As I blog from my Mom’s “comfy-chair” in California, I can’t help but notice the massive gap since my last entry.  Due mostly, of course, to the fact that life has picked up quite a bit for me.  Mostly from work, but also just from life in general.  The weather in New York is not as frightful and it’s much more appealing to be out on the town rather than huddled at my laptop.  I’ve been excepted into my choice Liberal Arts program and my New York social life is at a steady climb.

Also after much deliberation I have decided to part from my roommates and find a place I can call home.  I found it.  Thanks to my broker at BK Apartments I have found a nice one-and-a-half bedroom apartment in a quaint Brownstone on an adorable tree-lined block in Brooklyn.  The floors are hardwood, the walls are original and the rent aint bad a’tall.  The best feature, of course, is the ALONE SPACE.  The ability to cook eggs in the nude (as I so often feel neccesary).  The freedom to blast my Bob Dylan/ Yeah Yeah Yeahs/ Natasha Kahn/ Flaming Lips/Diana Ross musical melange first thing in the morning.  And of course…most importantly, the freedom to allow my lover Angelo free reign without the snide looks of bed-empty roommates who have to be exposed to our late night trists.  I can’t log onto a computer without tip-toeing over to Anthropologie or IKEA to see what item would coordinate with my adorable new space (which by the way has 6 closets INCLUDING the half bedroom which will be a walk-in attached to my room- SCREAM!)

Until June 11th – when my environmentally responsible movers will come in their bio-friendly fueled trucks to carefully transfer my belongings to Putnam Avenue – I wait patiently.  I have three more days with my crazy family and ADORABLE growing baby niece before I fly back home to NYC.  There will be my beloved Angelo waiting at JFK with a cab and a debt of hugs I’m sure.  Today I’m spending the day with my Mommy, and tomorrow is my family’s bbq at Humminbird Park.  The sun is out and I intend to join him.

Its That Time of Year Again…

Once again, as 2010 rolls towards a finale I embrace the joys of one of my favorite past times…. COMPANY!

My mom is flying to New York, albeit just for a long weekend, starting Friday.  I’m so excited to see her and squeeze her face and show her off (because my Mom is so awesome she must be shown and displayed).

I scouted out a few choice restaurants, planned an evening with both my gals (mommy and my bestie) and plan on breathing a little slower so that maybe the few days she’ll be here will last a while longer.  This isn’t just a visit from Mom, this is the LAST time I’ll be in her presence as the “baby of the family”.  The next time I’ll be home, we all get brand new titles and a beautiful baby girl thanks to my sister’s growing belly.

Excited! Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
